Hi,Â
Itâs been great having everyone back on the mats.
The academyâs been buzzing these past couple of weeks, familiar faces, fresh energy, and lots of quiet wins happening every session.
January is always about finding your feet again.
Getting back into routine. Rebuilding momentum.
And reminding ourselves that progress comes from showing up, not rushing ahead.
Weâre excited for whatâs already unfolding this yearâŠ
and this monthâs Spotlight shares just a small glimpse of what that looks like.
A Quick January Reset
A gentle reminder as the year gets going:
progress isnât built in big bursts,
itâs built through small, steady habits.
For children, teens, and adults alike, two focused sessions a week, done consistently, can make a powerful difference by the end of the year, in confidence, focus, resilience, and overall wellbeing.
Keep it simple. Keep it regular.
Small steps now lead to big changes later.

 Family Focus Week
Train together. Grow together.
Weâre excited to announce the first Family Focus Week at SOLO, taking place the week beginning March 23rd, following belt testing.
This is a special opportunity for parents to step onto the mats and experience a small part of what their child does each week at the academy.

đ„ Confidence Grows Stronger Together
Weâre excited to announce the first Family Focus Week at SOLO,Â
Family Focus Week is a special opportunity for parents to step onto the mats and experience the environment their child trains in every week at the academy.
Youâll:
-
Hold the pads
-
Join in simple drills
-
See first-hand how confidence, focus, and discipline are built
-
Share a positive, memorable moment together
This isnât about performance or ability, itâs about connection, encouragement, and celebrating progress after a focused training period.
đ What parents need to know:
-
Shoes and socks off (just like the students)
-
Wear something loose and comfortable
-
No experience needed, weâll guide you every step
-
Expect movement, smiles, and a few laughs
đ
How it will work
Parents will be invited to attend one session only, on either Tuesday or Thursday during Family Focus Week.
As we get closer to the date, weâll send out a simple registration form so we know whoâs attending and can prepare properly for you on the mats.
At SOLO, we believe that when families understand the journey, support becomes stronger, and confidence lasts far beyond the mats.Â
This is about shared experience, not performance. Weâll guide you every step of the way

LEADERSHIP CORNER
Weekly reflections with Coach Sensei Dee
Start Strong, Keep Going
A huge well done to every student whoâs back on the mats!
This term, remind your child:
âYou donât need to be the best...just keep showing up and doing your best.â
Progress isnât always about belts. Itâs about effort, focus, and the courage to keep trying especially when itâs tough.
Every step forward counts. And theyâre already on the path.
Letâs make it a great term of learning and growth!

From the Founderâs Desk
Thoughts and reflections from Sensei Darren Hunter...on growth, leadership, and the journey to becoming a better you.
The real secret to progress in 2026
As we step into a new year, hereâs something worth thinking about:
Most people think progress comes from motivation.
But real change? It comes from Non-Negotiables.
Not the big goals we hope to reach.
But the small actions we decide are non-negotiable, the things we protect, no matter what.
Most growth, whether in training, family life, health, or relationships, doesnât happen because we feel inspired.
It happens because we decide what matters, and we protect time for it.
A simple example:
Getting fit doesnât begin with how hard you train.
It begins with the habit of showing up, consistently.
The same principle applies everywhere:
-
Training sessions
-
Family time
-
Date nights
-
Personal goals that matter
At SOLO, we see it all the time:
When training becomes part of the routine, confidence and progress follow naturally.
So rather than chasing âmoreâ in 2026, aim for consistent.
Decide whatâs important, make space for it, and let small habits do the heavy lifting.
Small choices, repeated often, lead to big change.
