⭐ SOLO SPOTLIGHT

This Week’s Highlights

Hi,

It’s been great having everyone back on the mats.
The academy’s been buzzing these past couple of weeks, familiar faces, fresh energy, and lots of quiet wins happening every session.

January is always about finding your feet again.
Getting back into routine. Rebuilding momentum.
And reminding ourselves that progress comes from showing up, not rushing ahead.

We’re excited for what’s already unfolding this year

and this month’s Spotlight shares just a small glimpse of what that looks like.

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Recognising confidence, courage & focus in action

A Quick January Reset

A gentle reminder as the year gets going:
progress isn’t built in big bursts,

it’s built through small, steady habits.

For children, teens, and adults alike, two focused sessions a week, done consistently, can make a powerful difference by the end of the year, in confidence, focus, resilience, and overall wellbeing.

Keep it simple. Keep it regular.
Small steps now lead to big changes later.

January Academy Update

Family Focus Week ‱ Next Belt Testing Date ‱ New Kids Life Skills Channel

 Family Focus Week
Train together. Grow together.

We’re excited to announce the first Family Focus Week at SOLO, taking place the week beginning March 23rd, following belt testing.

This is a special opportunity for parents to step onto the mats and experience a small part of what their child does each week at the academy.

đŸ„‹ Confidence Grows Stronger Together

We’re excited to announce the first Family Focus Week at SOLO,

Family Focus Week is a special opportunity for parents to step onto the mats and experience the environment their child trains in every week at the academy.

You’ll:

  • Hold the pads

  • Join in simple drills

  • See first-hand how confidence, focus, and discipline are built

  • Share a positive, memorable moment together

This isn’t about performance or ability, it’s about connection, encouragement, and celebrating progress after a focused training period.

💛 What parents need to know:

  • Shoes and socks off (just like the students)

  • Wear something loose and comfortable

  • No experience needed, we’ll guide you every step

  • Expect movement, smiles, and a few laughs

📅 How it will work
Parents will be invited to attend one session only, on either Tuesday or Thursday during Family Focus Week.

As we get closer to the date, we’ll send out a simple registration form so we know who’s attending and can prepare properly for you on the mats.

At SOLO, we believe that when families understand the journey, support becomes stronger, and confidence lasts far beyond the mats.

This is about shared experience, not performance. We’ll guide you every step of the way

NEW: SOLO Ninja Life Skills : Now on YouTube Kids

The same Ninja characters your child earns in training
now building life skills at home.

We’re excited to share something new with our SOLO families, our SOLO Ninja Life Skills channel is now live on YouTube Kids 🎉
This means it’s designed specifically for children, with a safer, parent-approved viewing environment.

The very first video features Ninja Spike,  the same Ninja character students earn in training sessions for showing focus.

That’s not a coincidence.

This channel has been created to extend our Ninja Development Pathway beyond the academy, helping children practise the same life skills they’re recognised for on the mats — at home too.

In the Ninja Spike story, children explore:

  • Staying focused when things feel wobbly

  • Keeping their balance under pressure

  • Persevering when something feels tricky

  • Building confidence through effort, not perfection

These videos aren’t about martial arts techniques.
They’re about the life skills behind the belts, brought to life through familiar SOLO Ninja characters your child already knows.

💛 Why this matters
When children see the same Ninja characters, values, and language at home as they do in training, learning sticks, and confidence grows faster.

đŸŽ„Â How families can use it

  • Watch together via YouTube Kids

  • Link the story back to Ninja cards earned in sessions

  • Reinforce focus, effort, and calm thinking

  • Ideal for routines, quiet time, or car journeys

👉 Please subscribe on YouTube Kids
So your child can easily find future Ninja stories as new characters are released.

More Ninja Life Skills videos,  linked directly to our Ninja Development Pathway, are already on the way.

NINJA BLAZE is NEXT EPISODE

Because at SOLO, growth doesn’t stop when training ends.
It continues wherever the message stays consistent. 💛👊

These videos aren’t about techniques,

LEADERSHIP CORNER

Weekly reflections with Coach Sensei Dee

Start Strong, Keep Going

A huge well done to every student who’s back on the mats!
This term, remind your child:

“You don’t need to be the best...just keep showing up and doing your best.”

Progress isn’t always about belts. It’s about effort, focus, and the courage to keep trying especially when it’s tough.

Every step forward counts. And they’re already on the path.

Let’s make it a great term of learning and growth!
– Sensei Dee 👊💛

Message from Sensei Darren

Founder, Solo Martial Arts, inspiring confidence and leadership through small daily wins

From the Founder’s Desk

Thoughts and reflections from Sensei Darren Hunter...on growth, leadership, and the journey to becoming a better you.

The real secret to progress in 2026

As we step into a new year, here’s something worth thinking about:

Most people think progress comes from motivation.
But real change? It comes from Non-Negotiables.

Not the big goals we hope to reach.
But the small actions we decide are non-negotiable, the things we protect, no matter what.

Most growth, whether in training, family life, health, or relationships, doesn’t happen because we feel inspired.
It happens because we decide what matters, and we protect time for it.

A simple example:
Getting fit doesn’t begin with how hard you train.
It begins with the habit of showing up, consistently.

The same principle applies everywhere:

  • Training sessions

  • Family time

  • Date nights

  • Personal goals that matter

At SOLO, we see it all the time:
When training becomes part of the routine, confidence and progress follow naturally.

So rather than chasing “more” in 2026, aim for consistent.
Decide what’s important, make space for it,  and let small habits do the heavy lifting.

Small choices, repeated often, lead to big change.
